Sciton’s New MicroLaserPeel™ Procedure Is The Perfect Step Between Microdermabrasion and Full Skin Resurfacing

Palo Alto, CA — February 20, 2002 — The new Sciton-developed MicroLaserPeel™ procedure was designed for those wanting more than microdermabrasion or light chemical peels, and have little time for a prolonged healing process. Skin conditions such as wrinkles, scars, acne scars, laxity, keratoses, and pigmentary problems have been treated with a MicroLaserPeel. Although microdermabrasion has recently become a very popular procedure for a many Dermatologists and Cosmetic Surgeons, the procedure typically removes only the patient’s stratum corneum (dead and dying cells) at 10 microns deep, involves no downtime, and offers minimal results. Typically performed with topical anesthetic, the MicroLaserPeel is a partial epidermal peel 20-50 microns deep. Because this procedure ablates deeper into the epidermis, it is the perfect step for patients seeking something between microdermabrasion and full skin resurfacing. Typically, the procedure is repeated 2-4 times, spaced 6-8 weeks apart; but many peels may be done to achieve the desired result. Healing takes 3-4 days. The procedure can be performed on a Thursday or Friday, so the patient can return to work the following Monday. Symptoms immediately following a MicroLaserPeel resemble a sunburn, with minor sloughing on the second day. Redness will begin to fade by the third day, and can easily be covered by makeup on the fourth day. Patients experience smoother, healthier, more vibrant skin, with a significant, immediate change in skin texture and tightness when compared to microdermabrasion.

Surgeons and Dermatologists can get started with the MicroLaserPeel procedure when they purchase the PROFILE™ with 1 Er.YAG 2940 nm laser from Sciton. As many as 4 lasers can be put into a PROFILE console which, in addition to the MicroLaserPeel procedure, also offers vein treatment, hair removal and full laser resurfacing. A surgery center can add lasers as the practice grows. They can build their own Cosmetic Laser System, one or more applications at a time.

"I used CO2 from 1995 until 2000. Then I switched to Sciton’s dual mode erbium and I have stayed with it ever since. I have been much happier with the Sciton laser than anything I’ve ever done with CO2..." Continue Reading
