Sciton Establishes Direct Corporate Presence in Japan to Provide Its Best-In-Class Lasers and Light Source Products to Large, Sophisticated Japanese Market

Sciton Japan opens corporate office in Tokyo amid a financially challenging environment when many aesthetic laser companies are retreating

PALO ALTO, Calif. — April 15, 2010 — Sciton, a leading manufacturer of high-quality laser and light systems in the aesthetic medical market, announces the establishment of its Sciton Japan subsidiary and the opening of a corporate office in Tokyo. An aesthetic laser industry veteran, Mr. Hiroyuki Takase, has been hired as the General Manager, Sciton Japan to lead the new venture.

“The Japanese aesthetic laser market is the second-largest in the world and Sciton has historically had a small and very loyal following here,” said Mr. Takase. “As many of our competitors reduce staff and shrink their commitment to the Japanese market, we see an opportunity. Sciton’s products are of the highest quality and Japanese physicians appreciate well-designed and hand-crafted systems that provide superior clinical results. We anticipate great success as physicians learn about our products and support.”

Sciton’s JOULE™ system is especially appropriate for Japanese clinics where quality expectations are high and space is typically at a premium. The JOULE is unique in the industry with its combination of ten best-in-class modules on a single platform with multiple methods of delivering laser and light energy. Physicians can choose one or more modules to get started, and then add more as their practice grows or as new applications are introduced.

“Throughout our 13-year history, Sciton has been stronger in the US market than in international markets,” says Dan Negus, Ph.D., President of Sciton. “Having come through an industry-wide challenging 2009 with a profit and having experienced growth in certain areas outside the US, we’ve made a commitment to further strengthen our global presence by investing in a direct Japanese operation as part of a broader strategy to invest in promising opportunities.”
