28 Years of Growth, A Year of Big Changes: Happy Birthday, Sciton!

March 28, 2025—This April, we celebrate Sciton’s 28th anniversary—a legacy built on innovation, science-backed technology, and a commitment to helping providers achieve exceptional patient outcomes.
But anniversaries aren’t just about reflecting on the past; they’re about celebrating progress. Over the past year, we’ve embraced change—launching new technologies, expanding our reach, and finding new ways to support our Sciton Family. As we look ahead, our mission remains the same: to continually evolve, push boundaries, and improve lives with the very best in laser and light technology. Here’s a look at the milestones that made this year one to remember.
A legacy in resurfacing: Still setting the standard 28 years later

Founded in 1997 by two visionary laser physicists, Dr. Jim Hobart, PhD, and Dr. Dan Negus, PhD, Sciton’s story began with a bold decision: to introduce a resurfacing laser that would redefine what was possible in skin revitalization. Back in 1997, CO₂ lasers dominated the market but came with significant tradeoffs like extended downtime and unwanted complications. So, we set out to create something better.

We listened closely to the physicians using these technologies and heard the same message: remarkable results, but at too high a cost. Our response? Contour TRL™—our first product, a tunable Erbium resurfacing laser engineered to deliver powerful wrinkle reduction while minimizing thermal damage. It was the first of its kind to offer precision control, visible endpoints, and customizable depth and coagulation, giving providers a level of flexibility—and safety—never seen before.

That commitment to smarter, safer resurfacing didn’t stop there. Over the years, we’ve expanded our resurfacing portfolio with innovations like ProFractional™, our fractional Erbium laser designed to deliver impressive results with faster healing times. From full-field to fractional treatments, Sciton continues to set the gold standard in skin resurfacing—helping providers treat everything from fine lines and deep wrinkles to scars and age-related changes across all skin types. As we celebrate 28 years of innovation, resurfacing remains a powerful symbol of where we began and how we continue to grow: by listening, evolving, and always pushing the limits of what’s possible for patients and providers.

BBL® HEROic™: One year in, still changing the game

A year ago, we introduced BBL® HEROic, and the industry hasn’t looked back. This next-gen pulsed-light technology is redefining skin revitalization with faster, more efficient treatments, unmatched versatility across skin tones, and a comfort level that keeps patients coming back for more.

From rosacea and acne to sun damage and vascular concerns, HEROic is raising the bar in light-based technology—delivering results that are immediate, long-lasting, and trusted by providers.

Why providers can’t get enough:

✅ Effortless to use, delegate, and teach
✅ Delivers superior clinical outcomes
✅ Patients love the fast, comfortable treatments
✅ Treats reds, browns, sun damage, and age spots in minutes

Dr. Sherrif Ibrahim, MD, PhD, a board-certified dermatologist, puts it best—“I always tell patients that if you used every product in the world every day for the rest of your life, it wouldn’t do what one BBL HEROic treatment can do, and I feel very strongly about that.”

And the excitement isn’t just about today’s results. Industry leaders are buzzing about HEROic’s potential for long-term skin health. Studies on Sciton’s BroadBand Light® (BBL®) technology have shown that patients who receive just one or two treatments a year for a decade can look younger than they started. Now, experts are eager to see how HEROic takes those results even further.

One year in and HEROic is just getting started.

Meet SkinSmooth™: The perfect finish to every HEROic treatment

Innovation in light-based technology doesn’t stop at treating pigmentation and vascular concerns—improving skin texture is just as important for achieving natural, healthy-looking results. That’s where SkinSmooth™, powered by Sciton’s proprietary software and 640S filter, comes in.

Launched in October of 2024, SkinSmooth was designed to complement HEROic treatments by improving skin texture and radiance, resulting in a smoother, more luminous, and refreshed appearance. Developed in collaboration with Dr. Patrick Bitter Jr., MD, FAAD, a board-certified dermatologist and trailblazer in BBL treatments, this new filter works by delivering targeted spectral wavelengths that help improve the appearance of skin crepiness in areas such as the cheeks, neck, arms, and around the eyes and mouth.

According to Dr. Bitter, adding SkinSmooth has provided an extra level of refinement to his patients’ treatments. He notes that when incorporating this step, many patients report their skin looks smoother and more youthful.

The treatment is quick, adding just 3–5 minutes to a HEROic session with no need for numbing. While SkinSmooth is commonly used as a finishing touch for HEROic treatments, it also works well as a standalone treatment. By incorporating SkinSmooth into their protocols, providers can deliver even more comprehensive results for their patients.

A year of firsts: Your invitation to the HEROic Skin Society

New data confirms it: Sciton technologies outperform the market

Sciton’s legacy is built on innovation—and backed by results. New industry data from this year highlights the long-term value of investing in proven technologies. While trends come and go, data confirms that Sciton’s treatments continue to drive revenue growth, even as other aesthetic technologies decline.

A recent analysis by GuidePoint Qsight examined billing records from 500 U.S.-based med spa and plastic surgery practices over a two-year period ending July 31, 2024. The findings? Light-based and non-ablative laser treatments from Sciton aren’t just holding steady—they’re leading the way.

As the industry evolves, we remain focused on helping practices thrive with technologies designed for lasting success.

📈 Key findings:

  • Light-based treatments like BBL® HEROic saw a 7% revenue increase year-over-year.
  • Non-ablative fractional lasers, such as the MOXI™ laser, drove a 9% revenue boost.
  • Non-ablative, non-fractional lasers, including ClearSilk®, led the way with a 19% revenue increase.

In contrast, other treatment categories struggled to maintain growth:

  • Invasive fat reduction declined by 11%
  • Electrical muscle stimulation dropped by 17%
  • Surface radio frequency saw the sharpest decline at 27%

With a strong track record of clinical efficacy and financial impact, Sciton’s laser and light-based treatments are proving to be the smart investment for forward-thinking practices.

Standing with our Sciton Family when it matters most

Since its founding, Sciton has been dedicated not only to advancing aesthetic medicine but also to supporting the people who make this industry thrive. Our commitment goes beyond technology—we believe in standing by our providers, especially in times of need.

When recent hurricanes impacted Florida and other affected areas, we took action during our Skin CEO event in Nashville, donating all ticket proceeds and matching every dollar raised to aid in recovery efforts. That same spirit of support continued at Skin CEO: Boosted in Scottsdale, where we extended our relief efforts to those affected by wildfires in Los Angeles, using the same ticket proceeds and matching donation model to provide assistance.

Guided by our core value, “Do the right thing,” these efforts reflect what Sciton has always stood for—innovation with purpose, integrity, and a commitment to making a difference. As we celebrate this milestone year, we remain dedicated to supporting our Sciton Family in times of growth and adversity.

Beyond year 28: Shaping the future together

Reflecting on 28 years of innovation, this past year brought meaningful progress—from new technologies and industry recognition to provider support and community impact—all reinforcing our commitment to excellence.

But we’re not stopping here. With new advancements on the horizon, continued investment in education, and an unwavering dedication to our providers and patients, the future of Sciton is brighter than ever. Thank you for being part of this journey—we look forward to shaping the next chapter together!
